John Cowling | Chief Executive Officer

John’s 40 year corporate career has seen him work in Australia, US, UK and across Asia. Originally trained as a chartered accountant John progressed into senior management roles and has held positions as CEO of public & private companies, NSW government transport corporations and more recently, internet companies in Australia and overseas. His business experience in the last 20 years has been largely in strategic planning, restructuring/turn around strategies and change management to improve business performance. He has also served as a director of ASX listed companies and large public and private enterprises. John has been a member of the Australian Accounting Standards Board and the Advisory committee of Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) on Accounting issues. Fiona Balzer | Policy & Advocacy Manager

Fiona commenced with ASA in September 2017 and brings deep knowledge of ASA as well as a background in corporate governance and equity investment. She works closely with ASA's volunteer company monitors, who meet ASX200 boards and attend AGMs on behalf of retail shareholders. Her prior roles include Senior Investment Research Analyst/Associate Director with Macquarie Private Wealth from 2007 to 2015 and ASA Corporate Information Policy Officer from 2003 to 2007. Immediately prior to joining ASA for the first time in 2003, Fiona worked with CameronRalph, board performance assessors. This followed 15 years in Senior Equity Analyst/Portfolio Manager roles with Investment Management divisions of Westpac, NSW State Super and Commonwealth Bank. fiona.balzer@asa.asn.au

Kristine Nuñez |Conference & Events Executive

Kristine commenced with ASA in 2017 and comes with a lot of event and member association experience, having worked for both Associations Forum (the association for associations) and Institute of of Internal Auditors. Kristine comes with proven track record of successfully organising conferences, seminars, workshops, member meetings and webinars. She is responsible for ASA's annual conference, running our webinars and providing support to our volunteers. kris.nunez@asa.asn.au

Vishad Sharma | Research Officer

Vishad joined the ASA team in September 2019. He has a Master of Public Policy from the University of Sydney. He has previously worked as a research assistant with the Lowy Institute in Sydney, a data journalist and features writer at various publications in Bombay, and a communications and content manager for corporates and non-profits in Bangalore. research@asa.asn.au

Douglas Gannon | Membership Assistant

Doug Gannon is a long-time ASA volunteer member who assists ASA with membership renewals. He has also been a member of the NSW committee for several years and also helps out with a couple of Sydney metro regular meeting groups and has also been a member of the team helping to establish groups in several country areas. Prior to retirement and thence joining ASA, Doug was a Professional Civil Engineer and his career ranged through consulting, industrial sales, his own product development and manufacturing business in the advanced composites field, and for the last dozen or so years was a senior engineer & project manager at Railcorp.

Mary Calleja | Membership Services Officer

Mary joined the ASA Team in December 2019. Mary supports ASA in all administrative duties. These include answering the phone, helping members renew their membership, responding to member enquires about events and provides support to all ASA convenors. Prior to joining ASA, Mary worked in the retail industry for many years. Primarily, her experience has been in administrative and managerial roles within organisations both small and large. Mary finds joy in supporting people and has found her engagement with ASA members very rewarding. Mary is also a volunteer at other not-for-profit organisations that help marginalised community members in inner Sydney. info@asa.asn.au
