The Australian Shareholders' Association is overseen by an experienced Board of Directors comprising a chairman and seven directors.
Ian Curry | Chairman
FCPA, FCIS, Dip Fin Planning
Ian worked in the financial services industry for nearly 40 years with the Colonial Group, holding a diverse range of positions including CEO of Jardine CMG Asia (based in Hong Kong), General Manager, Colonial Mutual Life Australia CMLA and General Manager for (CMLA) New Zealand and Fiji. He was also Deputy Chairman and a Director of Lifeworks Relationship Counselling and Education Services for nine years and a Director of Peninsula Healthcare Network.
Ian joined the ASA in 2000 and was appointed Chairman in March 2012. He is chairman of the Remuneration & Nominations Committee and the Policy Committee.
Max Bonpain | Director
BMan, MBA, Mktg
Max has extensive experience in strategic and operational marketing including working internationally. He has wide-ranging experience covering FMCG and telecommunications with roles in brand development and brand building.
Currently Associate Director Brand Development at Sydney company Added Value, Max works with major multi-national clients like Nestle, Pepsi, Samsung and American Express, and well-known Australian brands Optus and Westpac.
Max has worked for Kimberley-Clark in France and UK and at Samsung Electronics in UK and Australia, including more than three years as Head of Marketing.
Max joined the ASA as director in January 2014 and is a member of the Conference and Strategy committees.
Betty Clarke-Wood | Director
Betty was an Australian Certified Investment Planner (ACIP) with Godfrey Westin Limited and enjoyed a long career in local government, latterly as Assistant Shire Secretary/Rate Collector.
Betty is a member of the Victorian State Committee and the Conference Committee and is also the convenor of the Ballarat Regional Group and a regular ASA contributor to local radio programs.
Betty joined the ASA in 1994 and was appointed to the Board in May 2008. Betty is a member of the Remuneration & Nominations Committee and the Conference Committee.
Diana D’Ambra | Director
BCom, MCom, ACPA, FPA
With more than 25 years’ experience at KPMG, including nine years as Executive Director Corporate Finance, Diana has extensive experience and broad knowledge in the provision of commercially-focussed valuation advice, particularly related to mergers, divestments, restructures, takeovers and acquisitions.
Appointed to the Board of Australian Design Centre in 2006, Diana also served as the Chair, Finance and Risk Committee and Chair, Nominations Committee.
In 2013 Diana was appointed to the Board of Ageing Disability & Home Care to advise on strategy and policy, provide input for reform and policy and launch the National Disability Insurance Scheme in NSW.
Clare Mazzetti | Director
BEc, MBA, AFMA, AICD, SDIA
Clare has more than 15 years’ experience in the financial services industry. She was head of Business Development and M&A Strategy at AMP Private Wealth and also worked as a Private Wealth Manager at Macquarie Group, RBS Morgans, JB Were and Merrill Lynch.
Currently an executive consultant at Litmus Group, Clare has also consulted at SFG Australia on strategic projects.
Clare has been a committee member of the Securities and Derivatives Industry Association, non-executive director of the Australian Medical Association of Qld, business and financial consultant for the Australian Aphasia Association and board adviser to the Agricultural Management Company.
Clare joined the ASA as director in January 2014 and is a member of the Strategy and Conference committees.
Barry Nunn | Director
BSc (Chem Eng)
Barry was employed by the Shell Group in Australia and overseas for 36 years. Prior to his retirement he was a board member of Shell Australia and Executive Director of Human Resources and Public Affairs.
He began private management consultancy work in 1991, with special interest in business planning, change management and organisation development. He also worked for KPMG Management Consulting, the Australian National Training Authority and chaired the 2001 Australian Defence Force Remuneration Review.
Barry was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (Military Division) in 1989 and was awarded a Centenary Medal in 2003.
He chairs the WA Branch Committee, is also chair of the Strategy Committee and a member of the Audit Committee. Barry joined the ASA in 2009 and was appointed to the Board in February 2012.
Denis O'Sullivan | Director
B Com, FCPA, AAUQ, ANZIIF (Snr Assoc), SA FIN
Denis was the Chief Financial Officer of The Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ) for more than twenty years. He was also director of several RACQ wholly owned subsidiary companies with responsibility for the management of the organisation’s investment portfolio.
He chairs the Queensland Company Monitoring Committee and is a member of the Audit Committee.
Denis joined the ASA in 2008 and was appointed to the Board in December 2010.
Geoff Sherwin | Director
FCA, F FIN, FAICD
Geoff was a senior partner with RSM Bird Cameron, a national chartered accounting firm until 1995. Since then he has enjoyed a portfolio of work, including company directorships, training and development and accounting services.
Geoff has delivered financial analysis training programs for the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Securities Institute of Australia (now Financial Services Institute of Australasia). He has led the ASA monitor training programme in WA for the last two years and nationally for the past 12 months. He is a member of the WA State Committee and chairs the Audit and Risk and Policy Committees.
Geoff joined the ASA in 2007 and was appointed to the Board in December 2010.
