Adelaide Investor Hour - 18 May
Dr Charlie Hargroves – Blockchain, Cryptocurrencies and Big Data especially in financial services, with a possible excursion into sustainability (say paper from mine waste).
Hacking into Blockchain
A blockchain is essentially a digital ledger of transactions that is duplicated and distributed across the entire network of computer systems on the blockchain. It is a system of recording information in a way that makes it difficult or impossible to change, hack, or cheat the system. (Adapted from Euromoney.com)
Please note some very good news for ASA – Charlie will bring along his students to the talk so we can expect a much bigger turnout. He is keen that the students learn about shareholders’ perspectives on blockchain. We can help that with our questions.
Charlie’s presentation will begin with a clear and simple overview of what a blockchain is, where it came from, how it works, and how it can deliver new value (such as cryptocurrencies and smart contracts). The session will focus on the perspective of a shareholder and explore how this new technology is likely to be used to both create a new class of investment opportunities but also how it can enhance current business productivity while providing shareholders with greater transparency.
Charlie’s focus is understanding the utility of blockchain technology in order to identify entrepreneurial opportunities. He is attached to the Entrepreneurship, Commercialisation and Innovation Centre (ECIC), part of the Adelaide Business School. He is an expert advisor to the United Nations Centre for Regional Development and has pioneered the application of blockchain to transport systems with the Sustainable Built Environment National Research Centre.
