Peter was appointed Chief Financial Officer of BHP in October 2014.  Previously he was the President of Copper and prior to that appointment in May 2013, President of Base Metals, President of Manganese, and Vice President and Chief Development Officer for Carbon Steel Materials.  He has wide experience across a range of regions and businesses in BHP, UBS Warburg, Kleinwort Benson and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Peter holds a Bachelor of Accountancy from University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa and is a Chartered Accountant.

Paul Bloxham, Chief Economist, HSBC Bank Australia

Paul Bloxham is chief spokesperson for HSBC on forecasts and trends for the Australian and New Zealand economies and their interaction with global financial markets and international economies. He is also a key spokesperson on HSBC’s unique view on global commodity markets and works closely with HSBC’s global equities team in this regard. Paul is a critical member of the HSBC Global Research team, working with 350 analysts, economists and strategists in 24 countries. Paul is also a member of the Australian National University’s Shadow Reserve Bank Board and is an Adjunct Professor at Curtin University.

Daniel Butler, Director, DBA Lawyers

Dan Butler is recognised as one of Australia’s leading SMSF lawyers complemented by his taxation and commercial expertise. He has worked predominantly in the fields of tax and superannuation over the past 30 years, is a qualified Chartered Tax Adviser and Chartered Accountant. Dan is a member of the ATO’s Superannuation Industry Relationship Network, the Chair of The Tax Institute’s National Superannuation Committee and is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria’s Tax Committee. Elio D'Amato, Executive Director, Lincoln Indicators

Elio D’Amato plays an integral role in both business and product development, including the evolution and maintenance of the Stock Doctor platform. With a research career extending 16 years, Elio shares his deep technical expertise with both staff and Stock Doctor members, providing pragmatic solutions to complex research matters in an easy to understand way. He is their chief educator and key media spokesman (you may recognise him from regular segments on TV for the ABC and Sky Business television networks. He also appears on radio and is a regular contributor to the Australian Financial Review). Elio’s role includes presenting at both industry events and investment workshops.

 

Alva Devoy, Managing Director Australia, Fidelity International

Alva Devoy was appointed as Managing Director of Fidelity International’s Australian business in 2016. This appointment was in addition to her existing responsibilities as Investment Director which she continues to hold. Alva is accountable for ensuring that Fidelity’s global investment strategies deliver the best outcome possible for Australian clients. Prior to joining Fidelity, Alva has held several senior executive, research and strategy roles at CIMB Securities International Australia, RBS Australia, KBC Asset Management, and Goodbody Stockbrokers. She also has a PhD in Molecular Engineering from Trinity College Dublin. Alva moved to Australia in 2009 and currently resides in Sydney.

 

John Durie, Senior Business Commentator, The Australian

John has been a business reporter for 35 years, starting his career in the Canberra Press Gallery in 1980. John has worked for 13 years as Chanticleer Columnist for the AFR, four years as business columnist for the New York Post, and also worked in Paris. He won the 2013 News Business Journalist of the Year Award.

 

Daniel Grioli, Managing Partner, Guiscard Capital

Daniel Grioli is an investor, portfolio manager, strategist, educator, student and author. He founded Grioli & Co in September 2017. He spent 10 years allocating capital on behalf of superannuation (pension) funds. His responsibilities included asset allocation, portfolio construction and fund manager research. Daniel’s career as an allocator gave him a terrific vantage point from which to explore a wide variety of investments. He learned that what separates the best investors from the rest is temperament. Recent academic pursuits include completing the Behavioural Economics and the Modern Economy program at the London School of Economics in 2016 and the Value Investing program at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business in 2015.

 

Brian Han, Senior Equity Analyst, Morningstar Australasia

Brian Han has been an equities analyst since 1997, with stints in institutional sell-side (BZW, ABN Amro, Credit Suisse London, Citigroup) and buy-side funds management (Constellation Capital Management), before joining Morningstar in 2014. Brian has two-decade experience covering media, technology and entertainment sectors, with his analytical focus extending to telecommunications and consumer sectors since 2007. At Morningstar, Brian is the analyst responsible for the telecommunications, media and leisure sectors.

 

Graham Hand, Managing Editor, Cuffelinks

Graham Hand has 42 years’ experience in financial markets, including General Manager, Capital Markets, Commonwealth Bank, Deputy Treasurer at the State Bank of New South Wales and Managing Director, Treasury at NatWest Markets Australia. In 2001, Graham’s first book, Naked Among Cannibals, an analysis of the evolution of Australian banking, featured in the Top 10 Business Books in Australia for several months. He then spent 12 years at Colonial First State as General Manager with responsibility for funding, alliances and SMSFs. He established Cuffelinks in 2012 with Chris Cuffe and it is now a leading, free financial newsletter with 60,000 readers. Graham holds several directorships including a director of Absolute Equity Performance Fund (ASX:AEG).  

 

David Harrison, Managing Director and Group CEO, Charter Hall

David Harrison has 32 years of property market experience across office, retail and industrial sectors in multiple geographies globally. David is responsible for all aspects of the Charter Hall business, with specific focus on strategy and continuing the momentum from building an Investment Manager recognised as a multi-core sector market leader. Steve Johnson, Chief Investment Officer, Forager 

Steve Johnson is the founder of and holds the largest beneficial interest in Forager. After a short investment banking career in the early 2000s, Steve decided to pursue his passion for value investing. In 2004, Steve, his business partner and other shareholders bought the Intelligent Investor Group from its founders and he was Managing Director of that business until 2009. With the support of the Intelligent Investor Group shareholders and brand, he then founded Intelligent Investor Funds Management Pty Ltd. The Forager Australian Shares Fund was launched in October 2009 and the Forager International Shares Fund was launched in February 2013. Both the Australian and International funds have built an excellent track record.

 

Chris Kallos, Healthcare Equities Analyst

Chris Kallos, CFA, is a healthcare and biotech equities analyst with over 20 years experience in both Australian and US stocks. He has covered small, medium and large cap stocks for a range of research houses in Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. Chris holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Sydney), an MBA from the AGSM (UNSW), and a Masters of Applied Finance (Macquarie). Michael Kemp, Author

Michael Kemp’s career has included operating as a money market dealer for Bankers Trust, working in the Treasury Department of the Australian Wheat Board, and also in the Corporate Finance Department of stock broking firm Potter Warburg (both in Australia and London). For the past 8 years he’s been working closely with Scott Pape (The Barefoot Investor) as a financial analyst and writer. In 2015 Michael was invited to present at the annual Value Investing Conference in Omaha, Nebraska in the lead up to the 2015 Berkshire Hathaway AGM. He has written two finance books: Creating Real Wealth and Uncommon Sense – Investment Wisdom Since the Stock Market’s Dawn.

 

 Stuart Magrath, Senior Director, Head of Channel Management Australia and NZ, S&P Dow Jones

Stuart Magrath is Senior Director and Head ofChannel Management, Australia and New Zealand at S&P Dow Jones Indices. He focuses on the current and future financial aspects of the accumulation and draw-down phases of the retirement community of both countries. As part of Stuart's responsibilities he services the needs of different influencers including financial advisers, accountants, self-managed superannuation fund members, Asset Owners and Investment Consultants.

 

Mary Manning, Portfolio Manager, Ellerston Capital Limited

Mary is a member of the investment team and is a Portfolio Manager for Ellerston’s listed investment company, Ellerston Asian Investments Ltd. Mary has over 17 years investment management expertise and joined Ellerston in 2012. Mary first worked in Asia in 1997 and has been investing in the region since 2001. Prior to joining Ellerston Capital, Mary worked at Oaktree Capital in New York and Singapore. In Singapore, she was the sole person responsible for financial sector investments for the firm’s Global Emerging Markets Hedge Fund. Mary also worked as an investment analyst at Soros Fund Management in New York, the investment vehicle of George Soros. She focussed on investments in the financial sector in the US, Asia, including Japan and Europe.

 

Stefan Marcionetti, Portfolio Manager, Magellan Global Trust

Stefan Marcionetti is a Portfolio Manager of the Magellan Global Trust and has worked as an Assistant Portfolio Manager on the global equities strategies since 2015. Stefan joined Magellan in 2013 initially in the Technology, Communications and Media team. Prior to Magellan, Stefan was an analyst at Gladstone Partners, a UK-based global equity long-short fund, and worked in Deutsche Bank’s investment banking team. Stefan holds a Bachelor of Commerce (First Class Honours) from the University of New South Wales.

 

Russell Markham, Director of Education, Asia Pacific at VectorVest

Russell holds a degree in Management Studies with a double major in Economics and Accounting. He also has a Masters of Financial Planning degree and post-graduate qualifications in Technology Management and in Marketing. Russell has more than 18 years commercial experience in financial analysis, marketing, education and training in Energy, Banking, Insurance and Financial Planning in Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong. He been with VectorVest for over 8 years and is now their Director of Education and Training for Asia Pacific, based in Australia.  Russell has been instrumental in putting together the model portfolios that VectorVest tracks for Australia. Stephen Mayne, Director, ASA

Stephen first joined the ASA as a member in the mid-1990s. Stephenis on the board of the ASA and sits on the Policy Committee. A Walkley Award-winning business journalist and founder of Crikey.com, Stephen is currently working as a contributor to Alan Kohler’s website, The Constant Investor, as well as being Communications Adviser at The Alliance For Gambling Reform. A respected shareholder activist, Stephen owns shares in more than 500 companies and has asked spirited questions at more than 400 AGMs. He was a Councillor for the City of Melbourne from 2012 to 2016 and during that time was Chairman of the Finance and Governance Committee.

 

Paul McLaren, Managing Director, Enhance Your Options Pty Ltd

Paul McLaren's career experiences are both broad and varied, underpinned by extensive formal qualifications. He has worked in Australia, the United Kingdom and Fiji, and holds the CMT Charter, DipTA(ATAA) and the CFTe qualifications, in addition to qualifications in Agricultural Science and Project Management. In 2012, he decided to fill a niche that he saw in providing quality financial education and training, particularly as it relates to options trading. He developed courses that enrich the options learning experience, the flagship of which is the RoToR Payoff Diagram®. Paul is an entertaining and highly regarded speaker having presented at the IFTA 2017 Conference in Milan, Italy and most recently IFTA 2018 Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

 

Angus McLeod, CFA, CIMA

Angus McLeod, CFA, CIMA is a 25-year veteran of the financial markets, having spent 12 years as an equity portfolio manager. He holds a degree in Economics, a Master of Applied Finance, is a CFA charter holder and a CIMA certificant. Angus is a lecturer in the Master of Finance course at RMIT University.

 

 Dr Brian McNamee AO, Chair, CSL Limited

Dr Brian McNamee was appointed to the CSL Board in February 2018 and became Chairman in October 2018. He was Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of CSL from 1990 until his retirement in 2013. Since leaving his executive role at CSL, Dr McNamee has served as an advisor to private equity group Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR). He has also pursued a number of private start-up and company-making activities, and in 2014 served on the panel of the Australian Government’s Financial System Inquiry.  In 2009, Dr McNamee received The Office of the Order of Australia (AO) for service to business and commerce.

 

Tim Montague-Jones, Head of Australian Equity Research, ASR Wealth Advisers.

Tim has over 20-year investment management experience working in the financial markets. Previous experience includes a ten-year stint at Morningstar as a Senior Equity Analyst/Portfolio Manager, founding the Morningstar Growth Portfolio and a founding member of their Investment Committee. Tim was also a Senior Equity Analyst for Macquarie Group and a member of the winning team to obtain the 2016 LONSEC SMA Fund Manager of the Year award. Tim created the “ASR Wealth Advisers Model Income Portfolio” to appeal to the growing demand from investors requiring sustainable income in their retirement.

 

Pete Morrissey, CEO, Real Estate Securities, APN Property Group

Pete joined APN in 2006 and is responsible for managing APN’s Property for Income Funds and Asian REIT strategies. With more than 15 years financial markets experience, Pete brings a unique knowledge set having completed Masters level academic research papers on both commercial real estate cycles and global property securities. Prior to joining APN, he was a senior analyst at Australian research house Lonsec, managed an internationally focused private investment fund and worked in the UK for Nomura, ING Barings and Lloyds Bank. Pete is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.

 

Richard Morrow, Equity Partner, Baillieu Limited

Richard Morrow is a 35 year veteran of the Australian and global resources investment sector. An equity partner of establishment Melbourne stockbroking house, Baillieu Ltd. Richard is also a director of Lowell Resources Fund Management, manager of the listed Lowell Resources Trust (ASX: LRT). A noted gold bug, he is also holds the honorary position as Chairman of the Melbourne Mining Club, the internationally recognised networking forum for the global mining sector.

 

 John Mullen, Chairman, Telstra

John Mullen was appointed a non-executive director of Telstra in July 2008, appointed Chairman  in 2016 and is also Chairman of the Nomination Committee. John has extensive experience in international transportation and logistics, with more than two decades in senior positions with some of the world’s largest transport and infrastructure companies. He has lived or worked in 13 countries over this time. John is currently Executive Chairman of the Toll Group and a director of Brookfield Infrastructure.

 

Vince Pezzullo, Deputy Head of Equities, Perpetual Limited

Vince is the Deputy Head of Equities and the Portfolio Manager for Australian Share, Geared Australian Share, Direct Equity Alpha and the Perpetual Equity Investment Company (ASX:PIC). He joined Perpetual Investments in July 2007 as an Analyst and since that time has covered the chemicals, diversified financials, banking, telecommunications, building materials and REITS sectors. Prior to joining Perpetual, Vince was a senior portfolio manager/analyst in the large cap Australian equities team at Deutsche Asset Management and led the top 100 equities team. In addition, he had stock research responsibilities across a large number of sectors. 

 

Dr Sally Pitkin, Independent Non-Executive Chair, Super Retail Group

Dr Sally Pitkin was appointed a Director of Super Retail Group in 2010 and Chair following the 2017 Annual General Meeting. Dr Pitkin is an ex-officio member of the Audit and Risk Committee, and the Human Resources and Remuneration Committee. Sally has more than 20 years’ experience as a Non-Executive Director in the listed, private, public and non-profit sectors, including experience in international markets, and over 14 years’ experience as a Non-Executive Director of ASX200 companies. She is a lawyer and former partner of a national law firm with banking law, corporate law and corporate governance expertise. Sally is a Non- Executive Director and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is Chair of the Institute’s Corporate Governance Committee. Sally is presently a Director of ASX listed companies The Star Entertainment Group Limited and Link Administration Holdings Limited. Sally holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Governance), a Master of Laws and Bachelor of Laws.

 

Simon Russell, Founder and Director, Behavioural Finance Australia

At Behavioural Finance Australia Simon provides specialist behavioural finance training and consulting to fund managers, major super funds and other financial services professionals. He helps his clients to apply insights about investment decision-making to tailor their investment processes and client engagement strategies. With a degree in psychology and a Master of Applied Finance, Simon likes to think of himself as part psychologist and part investment professional. Simon is the author of two books on behavioural finance: “Applying Behavioural Finance in Australia” and "Cyborg". His pet topics including how to combine data and technology with human psychology, and how to enhance team decision-making by applying research on cognitive diversity and group dynamics.

 

Dean Smith, Manager, Primary Securities

Dean Smith has 15 years’ experience in financial markets and specialises in Australian and International Equities and their derivatives. Dean is a Responsible Manager for Equities and Securities and assists with day to day overseeing of Primary securities related businesses. Dean is also the Head of the Equities and Derivatives trading desk at Primary Securities and also the administrator to the Managed Investment Account Service scheme. Dean is actively involved in mentoring and educating clients in both directional and non-directional systems. He is a former member of the Australian Technical Analyst Association (ATAA) for nine years and past ATAA Queensland chapter President and Nation ATAA Director and has presented to numerous industry groups.

 

Robert Swift, Head of Global Equity Strategies, Tamim Asset Management

Robert Swift hold a number of roles including manager of the TAMIM Global Equity High Conviction IMA service and CIO of API Capital. Robert has worked as a fund manager in the investment industry for over 30 years. Before API and TAMIM he managed $20bn as head of multi strategies at BT Investment Management in Sydney and prior to that was jointly responsible for over $200bn while a Chief Investment Officer at Putnam Investments in Boston, USA. He recently joined the investment committee at Local Government Super, an $8bn industry superannuation fund, based in Australia.

 

Anton Tagliaferro, Investment Director, Investors Mutual 

Anton Tagliaferro is the co-manager of the Investors Mutual Australian Share Fund and Portfolio Manager of the Investors Mutual All Industrials Share Fund. In addition, Anton co- manages QV Equities Limited, a Listed Investment Company focused on the ex 20 sector. He established IML in 1998 as a boutique, value style Australian equities fund manager. Anton joined the funds management industry in 1986. Highlights of Anton’s career include managing all Australian equity portfolios at BNP Investment Management, being the Industrials Director at County Natwest Investment Management and Group Investment Manager at Perpetual where he was responsible for launching and managing Perpetual’s highly successful Industrial Share Fund.

 

Edward Waller, Senior Investment Manager, Yarra Capital Management

Ed is responsible for research and analysis of banks, diversified financials, infrastructure and utilities securities within the Australian equities team. Ed is a co-portfolio manager for the Yarra Real Assets Securities Fund and is responsible for trade execution. Ed previously worked for 10 years as an investment manager for Goldman Sachs Asset Management. Prior to that he was a Research Analyst at Adviser Edge Investment Research where he analysed managed investment scheme projects across a broad range of agricultural industries. Ed holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (First Class Honours) from The University of Melbourne

 

Alison Watkins, Group Managing Director, Coca-Cola Amatil

Alison Watkins joined Coca-Cola Amatil as Group Managing Director in March 2014. Alison is a non-executive director of The Centre for Independent Studies and the Business Council of Australia. Alison has been a non-executive director of Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited, Woolworths Limited and Just Group Limited.  She is a former Victorian President and National Board Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
